Henry David Thoreau, the naturalist's Naturalist, explores the Maine North Woods
By Beth Henderson
Thoreau’s trips to the Maine North Woods (1846, 1853, and 1857) are inspiration for this exhibit. Belfast artist Beth Henderson was intrigued and inspired by Thoreau’s writings about his travels and discoveries in the North Woods. The exhibit of two and three dimensional pieces illustrates where Thoreau travelled in Maine, the plant and bird life he discovered, and it also documents the practices and habits of this highly respected mid 1800’s New England naturalist.
